Taiwan to Set Up VoIP Equipment Certification Consortium
July 14, 2006
In order to enhance Taiwanese makers' competitiveness in the VoIP equipment industry, Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute announced on 12 July that it will establish a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) certificate alliance named ViTA Forum with seven Taiwanese companies, including Chunghwa Telecom, Digital United, Taiwan Telecommunication Network Services, Accton, Taiwan International Standard Electronics and D-Link. The consortium will be providing test and certification standards for VoIP equipment. The ViTA Forum will initially provide certification for products such as IP phone and VoIP gateway, and later for offerings intended for the corporate market. Obtaining international recognition for its standards will also be one of the goals of the Forum, which is expected start operations in early 2007.
